Diablo 2 has launched on another platform 25 years after its original release.

Blizzard Entertainment has officially confirmed that Diablo II: Resurrected is coming to Steam. As a result, the updated version of the iconic ARPG will become available to a wider audience and join other Blizzard titles that have already launched on Valve’s platform.

The past few weeks have been particularly busy for Blizzard. The company hosted a series of presentations focused on its major franchises. World of Warcraft shared new details about its large-scale Midnight expansion and an updated development roadmap. Overwatch announced a major overhaul: the “2” was dropped from the title, five new heroes were added, and the game is now placing a stronger emphasis on a year-long narrative arc. Hearthstone also revealed a new expansion, Cataclysm. However, the Diablo universe arguably delivered the biggest wave of announcements.

As part of the series’ 30th anniversary celebration, the developers unveiled details about a new class — the Warlock. It will arrive alongside the Paladin class in the Lord of Hatred expansion for Diablo IV. The Warlock draws upon ancient Vizjerei knowledge to summon demons such as Goatman and Defiler, empower themselves by consuming demons, or bind them to gain access to unique abilities. The class is scheduled to launch in April.

In a surprising move, Blizzard confirmed that the Warlock will not only be added to Diablo IV, but also to Diablo Immortal and Diablo II: Resurrected. This is particularly notable since the original Diablo II had not received new content since the release of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The 2021 remaster focused solely on improved visuals and modern features, without introducing major new gameplay elements. Now, however, the game has received a substantial update, and its Windows version has become available on Steam in addition to Battle.net.

The Reign of the Warlock DLC for Diablo II introduces enhanced Terror Zones designed to challenge experienced players with tougher endgame encounters. The update also brings numerous quality-of-life improvements, including more than 30 new items, reworked Sunder Charms, additional stash tabs for better organization, two extra character slots, a system that tracks dropped items, and a customizable loot filter.

Amid all these additions, interest in the franchise is once again on the rise. Moreover, Diablo IV is currently hosting a Lunar New Year event: from February 12 to February 26, standard shrines are replaced with themed Lunar Shrines dedicated to the Year of the Horse. These grant a 100% experience boost for two minutes along with one of seven random bonuses, ranging from enhanced attacks and cooldown resets to summoning treasure goblins and instantly executing enemies.

With the release of new content and the arrival of Diablo II: Resurrected on Steam, now is truly a great time to return to the world of Sanctuary — or to experience it for the first time.
