15 days in jail for the Instagram logo: court rules on the display of prohibited symbols in Russia

Using the Instagram* logo can result in up to 15 days of administrative detention. A resident was held liable for placing the social network’s icon on his website.

Although he removed the image and shut down the site before the court hearings, this did not affect the outcome. The Meshchansky District Court found him guilty of publicly displaying prohibited symbols and imposed an administrative penalty.

Owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation.
